Following the main border, this is deliberately a quiet interlude. There is a cloistered feel in the construction of the loggia with oak arches and cobbled floors. In the centre of the garden is an ancient font. This sits in a rectangle of rough grass through which grow fritillaries, small narcissus and moon daisies according to the season. The only other planting is a solitary medlar, a bed of white lillies and white Agapanthus, four enormous box puddings and a garland of Rosa ‘Francis E Lester’.
