The Long Walk

The Long Walk: photograph by Marianne MajerusThis is a narrow segment which crosses the Garden from north to south and defines the end of formality.  The box-lined beds are narrow and box cones in Whichford pots sit in their own bays.  Cultivation is not easy in narrow beds backed by yew hedges or walls and overhung by maples, and therefore having limited sun.  Clematis and phlox cope very well with the aspects and large flowered pink, black and orange dahlias flower their hearts out until the end of the season.
